Agnes Sarkis has been a principal artist for OPERA AUSTRALIA since 2015, her roles including Third Lady in DIE ZAUBERFLÖTE, Cherubino in LE NOZZE DI FIGARO, Olga in THE MERRY WIDOW, Mercédès in CARMEN, Modestina in IL VIAGGIO A REIMS, Flora Bervoix in LA TRAVIATA and most recently in 2023, Suzuki in MADAMA BUTTERFLY, Kasturbai in SATYAGRAHA, Siegrune in DIE WALKÜRE in the company’s Brisbane Ring Cycle season and Nicklausse in THE TALES OF HOFFMANN her performances in this last role being described by BACHTRACK as … delectable lyricism., and STAGE NOISE saying, Sarkis as Nicklause… she is a ravishing singer.
Her other early roles included the title role in Anne Boyd’s DAISY BATES AT OOLDEA, L’Opinion Publique in ORPHÉE AUX ENFERS, Balkis in Gluck’s LA RENCONTRE IMPREVUE, Dinah in TROUBLE IN TAHITI, Syron in KING ARTHUR, La Soeur Ainée in Milhaud’s LES MALHEURS d’ORPHÉE, Frau Reich in DIE LUSTIGEN WEIBER VON WINDSOR, Madama Rosa in Donizetti’s IL CAMPANELLO DI NOTTE, Andronico in TAMERLANO, Mrs Herring in ALBERT HERRING and Marianna in IL SIGNOR BRUSCHINO all for the SYDNEY CONSERVATORIUM OF MUSIC.
Her concert appearances include various opera concerts and gala events for OPERA AUSTRALIA including the company’s 2022 New Year’s Eve concert at the SYDNEY OPERA HOUSE and opera gala at ULURU.
She is a graduate with an advanced diploma in opera studies from the SYDNEY CONSERVATORIUM OF MUSIC, was the recipient of the JOAN CARDEN AWARD in 2012 and of the SYDNEY EISTEDDFOD opera scholarship in 2014 and has studied in Italy with Floriana Longo and Claudia Sgura.
